Joining COMET
COMET is membership driven.
The research will be funded by membership fees. Three membership levels are available: (i) Full membership (“Participant”), which will allow participant representatives to sit on the Consortium Advisory Committee and actively participate in the definitions of the consortium projects and (ii) Associate membership (“Observer”), who are provided access to work, reports, presentations, and can attend annual research meetings; it does not include a seat on the Advisory Committee. (iii) Public Associate membership ("Public Entity Observer") members are government agencies interested in participating in COMET. They are provided access to work, reports, presentations, and can attend annual meetings. This membership does not include a seat on the Advisory Committee.
Other interested parties can support the work of COMET without membership by donations through the FSU Foundation.
The annual fee for Participant is $50,000. The annual fee for Observer is $25,000 for industrial partners; Public institutions can participate as Pubilc Entity Observers for no fee. Member companies that join after the first year of operation may also be required to pay a one-time entrance fee set by the participants to compensate for start-up costs and access to the knowledge developed before their joining.
All of the research will be shared by the participants, including Observers, and it is expected to eventually be published, taking care of any confidentiality constraint. Should patentable materials arise, the consortium members will have an option to elect a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license (where IP rights applicable) for all intellectual property developed, subject to patent fees. The University maintains the right to continue practicing and expanding upon any consortium intellectual property.
The Participants and Observers will have, via semiannual meetings and intermediate reports, first access to the information produced. As students will be involved in the research, the Participants and Observers will have an opportunity to meet the students, who may become potential hires of the member companies. In this way, the Consortium will also provide another important benefit, that is, to serve as a recruiting tool for member companies.
Indirect participation through donations or other forms of funding, depending on partner convenience, is permitted.
